The new Viaq Police Station at Wewak Town Market, The Wewak Laura Martin Market and Wanakau Jetty projects were opened last month by the Prime Minister and East Sepik Regional member Sir Michael Somare in Wewak.

The Market and Jetty projects were counter-funded by the PNG and Japanese governments.

With the PM were his deputy Sam Abal, Foreign Affairs Minister Don Polye, Forest Minister Timothy Bonga, Labour and Employment Minister Sani Rambi, Lands Minister Lucas Dekena, Housing Minister Andrew Kumbakor, Fisheries Minister Ben Semri and government whip Mathew Poia.

Other dignitaries at the opening included the Japanese Ambassador to PNG Hiroharu Hashi Iwasaki, National Fisheries Authority managing director Sylvester Pokajam and acting Police Commissioner Tony Wagambie.

The Market and the Jetty projects are valued at more than K28 million.
